Richard D. Bass
dick@generationsoneverest.com
Dick was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1929, moved with his family to Dallas, Texas in 1932 and has had his legal residence there ever since. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from Yale University in 1950 and did graduate work at the University of Texas in geology and petroleum engineering prior to serving two years in the U.S. Navy from mid-1951 to mid-1953 on the aircraft carrier USS Essex during the Korean War. He joined the family oil and gas business and ranching operations in mid-1953.
In 1969, after visiting the Wasatch Mountains in Utah, Dick undertook the pursuit of a new and lifelong dream and Snowbird Ski Resort opened in 1971. Despite roadblocks and setbacks that would have deterred lesser men, Dick has overseen the growth of Snowbird into a world-class destination ski and summer resort.
Dick Bass is, in his own words, not super strong, not super smart and not super courageous. But, I am super-curious and super- enthusiastic. His infectious energy and enthusiasm carried him to the top of the seven summits and was the first man to have climbed the highest mountain on each of the worlds seven continents, chronicled in his book, Seven Summits. To know Dick is to know a human dynamo, an individual full of energy and dreams. Snowbird is living testimony to Dicks unflagging optimism, energy and determination.
